A Night of Records

They divide Major League Baseball into two divisions, the American League and National League. These two leagues will come together for the All-Star Game, sometimes called the "Midsummer Classic." Who gets to play on the selected teams is determined by a combination of fans, coaches and managers. This year’s All-Star game was one for the books, with many headlines recorded.

They could call the first headline the last. The last ballgame to be played in the house that Ruth built, Yankee Stadium. They graced the field with Hall-of-Famers which was a terrific way to send off Yankee Stadium. One of the many highlights that night was when a Fox announcer proclaimed to the crowd, "I present to you in the House that Ruth Built the greatest collection of All Stars on one field." The fans applauded the Hall-of-Famers for the memories and the Hall-of-Famers applauded the fans that gathered that night to say good-bye to Yankee Stadium, a Cathedral.

Another headlines made includes the home-run derby. Here a record number twenty-eight home runs were hit by one person in the first round. They also noted the home run derby as the most viewed program of the evening. The All-Star game also was the longest one in history, ending in the wee hours in the morning. The game lasted four hours and fifty minutes and tied the 1967 record of fifteen innings. The American League coming away with victory also means they will have the home field advantage during the World Series. The All-Star game also had all sixty-three players on the rosters see action that evening. With all the action of the evening it was fitting to say that it is almost like the last game at Yankee Stadium should not come to an end.
