Barry Bonds and Steroids

Barry Lamar Bonds, born July 24, 1964 in Riverside, California. He has been recognized as one of the greatest sluggers of all-time in the game of baseball. Ha has had to fill some very big shoes being that he is the son of all time great Bobby Bonds and godson of Willie Mays. Unfortunately, his career has been plagued by scandals and controversy.

Mr. Bonds started his baseball career in 1986 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played with that club until 1993 when he joined the San Francisco Giants. He holds the record for most home runs and many other awards. That career has been tarnished by accusation of steroid use. In 2003, he was the center of attention in the Bay Area Lab Co-operative (BALCO) case. He was indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice when he lied under oath about his use of steroids. As it turns out, he said that his changed physique and increase in power was not due to steroid use, rather a strict regiment of bodybuilding and proper diet. In later testimony he claims that his trainer gave him a cream and an unknown clear substance which he was told were flaxseed oil and ointment for arthritis. In November of 2007, he was indicted on perjury and obstruction of justice. In November of 2000, a report said that he did test positive for steroids.

Barry Bonds has been in the middle of a media frenzy for a while which may put a slight shadow over his home run record. It is said that those records should no longer be upheld or counted because of his alleged "cheating." That's for another story, but for now, Barry Bonds will remain in the history books as one of the greatest of all-time.
