Talkin' Baseball with Mary on Tuesday, April 28

Hey fans - How was your weekend of baseball?  How did your team do?  I'm happy with my Cardinals  - we won the series against the Cubs. Right now we're in Atlanta to face Chipper Jones and the Atlanta Braves (do I sound like a FOX commercial?).  I'm looking forward to this series.  Chipper is fun to watch play baseball (as long as he's not too tough on us). We're in first place right now and that's cool. I hope I didn't jinx us by telling you that.

Here is some baseball news:

CHICAGO WHITE SOX - The Sox second baseman, Chris Getz, fractured the tip of the middle finger on his right hand when he was practising double plays Saturday.

At first, they thought he just had a fruised finger and now have found that it is more serious for the power hitter.  Guillan said about his injury, "We're going to see how he reacts. I don't think it is a one- or a two-day thing." They are going to miss him.  Getz has a .433 average so far with five RBIs over the last seven games.

They plan to bring up Gorden Beck who was a first-round draft choice.  He is considered a shortstop but has played second base during spring training.

Jason Bay Get Exciting Homer

BOSTON RED SOX - The Red Sox and Indians had a good 'ol pitcher's duel going on Monday night for eight scoreless innings at Fenway Park.  Left fielder Jason Bay comes to the dish.  Kerry Woods threw him a pitch that he loved and he cracked a three-run homer, breaking 0-0 tie. Of course Red Sox nation went crazy.  They just couldn't figure out what was better, the home run they just saw or sweeping the Yankees during the weekend just days before.  They were both exciting.  This put the Sox into first place in their division and was their 11th straight win.
