BASEBALL WEBSITE BY - MARY CLAUSEN
Hey baseball fans - Here is the weekend once again. My Cardinals were scheduled to start a series with the Brewers Friday night, but we had an ugly storm that came through and rained us out. Boo. We were neck-in-neck and tied for first last night.
That is a different story now. They have taken over the first place slot from us. Not the Brew Crew! We played them this afternoon (Saturday) and they beat us 1-0. Another rotten thing happened today - the Cubbies won and they are in 2nd place. That's worse. We are in 3rd place (National League Central Division). Uh Oh. We are all within .5 of a game. It's a close race.
The game today was an old-fashioned pitcher's duel (I was able listen to bits here and there). Adam Weinwright pitched a very good game but Jeff Suppan ("soup") was better (he used to be w/us). Actually Wainwright pitched what was the best-pitched game so far this year for our Birds. The "stuff" that he was having trouble finding this year, he found once again. Way to Go!
He recently made some adjustments in his arm movements and it just clicked for him. He explained it, "It just got better to me, really. I kind of got out of whack for a few games and now I am back." I'd say it came back to him - he allowed only two hits in eight innings. One of the only hits was a single home run hit by Corey Hart in the second inning. Bummer. That's all it took for the Brewers. We got hits off of "Soup" but couldn't get them around the bases.
Chris Carpenter will be happy that Weinwright is in a better place now. He's part of that 1-2 punch that we have heard so much about. You can't have the 1-2 punch unless you have the one part AND the two parts of the punch. 1 - Carpenter 2 - Weinwright punch. That's it guys. Cool. Get it going.
Here is some of the action going on in basebal this weekend:
NEW YORK YANKEES - National League Player of the Weekl, Johnny Damon, is playing in the last year of his contract. He's not sure what will happen to him in 2010. Damon said, "I don't think it will be much of a surprise if they don't bring me back. . .I know they have a bunch of outfielders they are bringing up."
Damon would like to continue to play for the Yankees. He feels that they are the best chance for him to get into the playoffs and the World Series right now.
Johnny Damon is a Happy Yankee
