BASEBALL WEBSITE BY - MARY CLAUSEN
Hey fans - what's up, or as they say it in Mexico - que pasa? How are things going with your team. It's an up and down world in MLB. We know the one we like better, but we can handle the other if we have to.
Colby Rasmus. It took him some time to get settled, but he's coming along fine and becoing a good player in the MLB. The rookie had a six-game hitting streak going this week that ended Friday in the rainout (he hit his third home run in the second inning). You probably remember his second homer. It was a monerous hit that traveled 345 feet into the Alegheny River in Pittsburg. He is only the sixth player to do that so far from PNC Park (it opened in 2001).
Rasmus is a player that we have heard scouts talk about for years. He was great in both Double-A and Triple-A. Cardinal manager, Tony LaRussa is not worried about his slow start - he began that way in both systems. LaRussa said, "He's swinging good now - he's going to start getting messed with, and he's going to have to adjust. He's got a lot that he still has to accomplish, but he's going to hold his own. Whether he holds his own OK or really good, we will see. This is the big leagues."
Keep up the good work Colby. Here's some pitcher action in baseball right now:
CHICAGO CUBS - Ace, Carlos Zambrano flew to Florida to make a Class A Dayton start Sunday. If that goes well, he will start with the team against San Diego on Friday.
ST. LOUIS CARDINALS - When we had the rainout Friday, something good came from it. Ace, Chris Carpenter may now be able to make the start start Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs instead of waiting until Friday against Kansas City. Manager LaRussa said Saturday, "He's one of the guys we're considering." Pineiro is locked in to start the series against the Cubbies on Tuesday.
Monday is a makeup game against the Brewers. They are considering Kyle Lohse, but he would be on short rest (he pitched the rainout Friday). LaRussa said, ". ..I don't think it's official. I prefer to keep our options open."
