BRINGS BACK GOOD TIMES ON 10/27/06
W/ADAM WAINRIGHT @ THE SERIES VS DETROIT!

Sunday night we lost to the Tribe 3-0 and was a rough one for the Cardinals. It was obvious that our ace might not have a game where Carp shines when he walked the first batter.  That was only his third walk since he's been back after his oblique injury.  Then up next was  Mark DeRosa. He hit a home run. Ouch (we really need him at third).

The really obvious problem was not Chris Carpenter's pitching, but the way last year's American League Cy Young winner, Cliff Young, dominated the game.  The lefty was very good all night.  He kept our offense down to three hits - you can't win like that too often.  Tony LaRussa said after the loss, "He (Carpenter) pitched well tonight.  He pounded the strike zone. As the game went on, we got fewer and fewer pitches to hit.  He (Lee) deserved to win." There you go.

We came away pretty well from that away trip.  We won the first series against the Marlins and then lost to the Indians.  We're coming home playing over .500 ball and that is great.

The Brewers must have lost Sunday, coz there were no changes in the standings (that's unusual, they have been winning when we lose). We have a day off Monday (it's raining in St. Louis so that's good).  Then Tuesday we have a remake of the 2006 Series and play the Detroit Tigers in St. Louis. The Tigers are in first place in their division by three games and, as usual, will be a tough team to play.

Here we go with other baseball news -

NEW YORK METS - 6/15/09 - JOHAN SANTANA
In the first seven games of the season, Johan Santana had an ERA of 0.78.  Wow.  Over his last six games, it is 6.50. Wow again.

The Mets played their crosstown rivals, the Yankees, yesterday in inter league play.  The Mets' ace was pitching and lost to the Yanks to an embarrassing score of 13-0. The pitcher that usually has no ailments suddenly came up with a few Sunday. He had a blister on his pitching hand, a blister on his toe and a sore back that he says has been bothering him for a while. Sorry Johan, you still lost. Santana said after the game, "It was a bad day.  Actually one of the worst of my career, but that's going to happen."  Yes it was bad.  He allowed nine runs on nine hits and walked two in only three innings. Yup that's bad day for an ace pitcher like Santana.

CHICAGO CUBS - 6/15/09 - GERALD PERRY
Gerald Perry has been the hitting coach with the Cubs for the past two seasons - seasons when Cubs won two National League Central titles.  The Cubs aren't on the top of their division (the Brewers and Cardinals are!).  Sunday, they let Perry go.  He was replaced with the AAA hitting coach, Von Joshua.  Joshua has a history in Chicago - he was the hitting coach of the White Sox from 1998-2001.
