Last
weekend I went to Chicago, Illinois to visit friends. While was there
I thought it would be fun to do a little Talkin' Baseball with Mary, so I conducted a casual survey with some of of the people in the Windy City (and yes it is windy!). I asked them two questions. First I asked what baseball team they followed and then I
asked them why. Was I nuts?
Yes I was. I have to tell
you that I did this baseball survey on a dangerous weekend. It was an inter-league play weekend and the Cubs were playing the
White Sox. Actually that made it kind of fun.
People
from Chicago are real characters. They are friendly, but are very
opinionated. Especially about their baseball. I started the survey right when
I arrived into town at Chicago's Union Station. People were waiting for the train to take them home from work. It was Friday and most were in a good mood.
First I talked to
a couple of middle-aged folks. A man told me that he was a fan of the
White Sox. He thought it was important
to follow a winning baseball team; not a losing one (like the Cubs). Next a lady told me that she was also a Sox fan and that she would never be a Cub fan. She said she was someone that had a little sense and she that was not a
masochist (like Cub fans were). She was brought up a Sox fan. Both
of these people lived on the south side of Chicago.
Then it was
on to the North Side of the city where the Cub fans reside. I went to
a bar where we watched the Cubs/Sox game. On Friday, the Cubs won
the game. When Cub fans are in a winning mode, they are nuts. They
are so loud. They even have a victory song that they all sing - loudly. This song really pisses
off the White Sox fans, but they didn't care. Cub fans and White Sox fans can't stand each other!
Hey fans, I'll continue my
story Monday and tell you about the rest of my weekend.
Adios amigos.
