CARDINAL NATION
HAS A HOLLIDAY

We had a very happy Cardinal team playing ball Friday night. We won against the World Champion Phillies 8-1. We acquired Matt Holiday earlier in the dayy from the A's and there was a bit more spark added to our lineup.  He was a part of three rallies going 4-5, stole second base and almost hit a homer (ended up as a double).  Great work - it WAS a Hollliday last night in Cardinal Nation.

Call me baseball superstitious, but during Holliday's first time up to bat as a Cardinal, he hit an infield single (a hit though).   Good luck. Another karma - did you notice the number he was assigned?  Jim Edmonds old number.  I have a feeling that he will do just fine.

There was an explosion of bats in the fourth inning.  Our Cardinals had six consecutive hits that resulted in four runs.  What a great inning.

Joel Pineiro was magnificant, pitching six scoreless innings.  He's becoming a pitcher that is quietly becoming one of our best - we can count on him. That is a great thing to have.

We have our second game of the series this afternoon - yea a day game.  Kyle Lohse (4-6) will pitch for our Cardinals and the Phillies have Lopez (2-0).  Lohse looked better in his last start and getting back to "his old self."

There weren't any changes in the standings - we're still 1.5 games ahead of the Cubs & Houston.  They both won Friday.

Saturday - I'll just make this short 'n sweet (believe me, it was far from that), but the Phillies beat us Saturday afternoon 14-6.  Our bright spot in the game was Rick Ankiel.  He made two great catches in centerfield and hit a homer.   In the bottom of the sixth, Jimmy Rollins hit a grand slam off Jason Mott and they kept hittin' and hittin' and hittin'  You saw the score.  The Cubs are only .5 games back and the Brewers 1.5.
