BOB GIBSON - ONE OF THE BEST

We don't like our pitchers injured. Fans are used to seeing their pitchers injure their rotator cuff, their shoulder, etc. and to see their pitchers go through surgeries like the "dreaded" Tommy John surgery,
These pitcher surgeries/injuries can keep them out a very long time - sometimes an entire season. However, there have been a number of pitchers that have been injured "out of character" this season. Some of these injures include:
Carlos Zambrano - The Cub right handed pitcher strained his left hamstring trying to beat a bunt single on May 3. He was out three weeks.
Jake Peavy - Peavy tore a tendon trying to run to first base May 22. He's had a lengthy DL, is now with the Chicago White Sox and just about ready to pitch again.
Scott Down - He strained his big toe running to first base June 16. He's still on the DL with that injury.
Pitchers aren't usually known in baseball as hitters and it's unusual when they get to have an injury at the plate. No, everyone doesn't need to go the American League way and DH for the pitcher. Pitchers just need to be extra careful.
Carlos Zambrano, the fiery right-handed pitcher for the Cubs, commented about how he feels about pitchers and their injuries, "We don't need the sympathy. This is the National League and in the NL you have to be at the plate and have to be able to do everything."
Ok pitchers. Do what is necessary, but don't hurt yourself doing it. It is approaching September baseball and it is very important to keep you healthy. We need you even more during this post-season time of the year. It's good to play a "hard nine," but not too hard guys.
