Body Found on Chipper Jones' Family Ranch

MLB WEBSITE BY - MARY CLAUSEN

This story is different from the regular baseball news that we all love to read about.  I put this story in for a couple of reasons. One, I am a huge Chipper Jones fan - he's a great player. Two, this story shows baseball players go through rough times in life other than in baseball - just like all of us.  Don't worry, I'm not turning my website into another Inquirer, fans. Anyway, it's the weekend and I'm kind of lightening stories up.  If you this consider light! You'll still find that good 'ol baseball news on the rest of in my site like you usually do, so read on and come back!

The body of a dead 22-year-old-man was found on a ranch owned by the Chipper Jones family Thursday.  This is a ranch located in southwest Texas. A ranch foreman found the body Thursday at 6:30 a.m. and contacted Larry Jones, Sr.(Chipper's father).  Jones, Sr. said the man was in the country illegally from Mexico and died from the extreme
Texas heat without food and water. It was the 83rd day in a row that temperatures had been above 100 degrees - the Jones' thermometer read 124 degrees. They found the man in an area that is not checked regularly by the ranch hands.

The Jones family has owned this 10,000-acre ranch since 2000. It is named the Double Dime Ranch after Chipper's baseball number, which is 10 (his father also played professional baseball and had the same number).  Chipper visits the ranch during the off season and for some holidays. It has 750 steer and other wildlife. The Double Dime Ranch also offers tours, a rifle range, a stocked lake for fishing and a hunting lodge.
