Waino was definitely on his game last night. He was fantastic. Adam Wainwright threw eight scoreless innings, struck out five, walked none and only allowed three hits during
the 1-0 win over the Houston Astros. His ERA also went down to 2.50, and is the fourth-best in the National League. Wainwright won his 15th game this season Monday, which is a career-high for him. Adam Wainwright makes a stronger case for the Cy Young
Award each time he goes out on the mound. He said about Carpenter's race with him for
the coveted pitching award, "He's got one. He doesn't need another one."
More on Wainwright from his manager, Tony LaRussa,"He was dealing and that's what he's
been doing. He's pitching so well - it's incredible and the guy he pitched against
stayed right there with him." Carlos Lee of the Astros also had great praises for
Wainwright, "He's so unpredictable in any count and every at-bat. He just mixes the ball
so good and he won't give in. That guy didn't make any mistakes at all."
The game Monday night was all about pitching. The Astros pitcher, Wandy Rofriguez,
looked great too and matched Adam pitch for pitch. Albert Pujols knocked in the only
run that was scored in the game. Our St. Louis Cardinals are now eight games ahead of
the Cubbies. What a great lead in a division where the teams are usually very
close. Love it.
Ryan Franklin closed the game, pitching only the ninth inning and got his 33rd save.
The Cardinal lineup and pitching staff is better than we have seen in years.
Since we added Holliday and Lugo to our lineup at the end of July our record is 21-8
and we have won the past 14 out of 17 games.
Wednesday we have Joel Pineiro (12-9) pitching for our Cardinals and Roy Oswalt (7-4) will have the ball for the Astros. It should be another good game.

LOOKIN' GREAT CARDS!
