ST. LOUIS CARDINALS - 9/13/09 - JOHN SMOLTZ
John Smoltz is experiencing tendinitis in his pitching shoulder. He sat out his start Monday and the Cardinals put in Todd Wellemeyer (who just got off the DL). Tony said yesterday, "John has been through this before. He has it treated and is fine after that. We plan on using him at his next start, which is Sunday." Good luck John - we'll miss you!
SEATTLE MARINERS - 9/14/09 - ICHIRO - 200-HIT 9TH SEASON
Ichiro got his 200th hit Sunday for the ninth consecutive season in the Mariners 5-0 win against the Texas Rangers. To celebrate, his teammate, Ken Griffey, Jr., hoisted him up on his shoulders like a sack of flour and delivered him to a team-wide dousing in the shower. Ichiro said after the excitement, through an interpreter, "It's impossible that I am going to have the same exact team members as this year next year next year, so I am going to enjoy this moment with them. It makes me very joyful."
SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS - 9/14/09 - TIM LINCECUM START
The Cy Young pitcher, Tim Lincecum, started again after being sidelined for a week with back spasms. It waas against the Colorado Rockies who are working extremely hard for a spot in the playoffs this year. Lincecum said about being out for that period, "I felt like I wanted to be out there. I want to pitch really badly." Good luck Tim, but keep the strikeout number low. We want that Cy Young this year for Wainwright!
Update - Lincecum got his 19th win during that game (the first NL pitcher to do so). and he struck out 11 batters. He's back - that's for sure.
